Design & manufacture of custom electronic instrumentation
In the diverse range of projects Airborne Engineering has worked on, we try wherever possible to seek out commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions. However, one of the most frequent requests from customers is to help them get different items of seemingly incompatible COTS equipment to work together. Quite often, COTS equipment isn't available with the right interface, or in the right size package or the correct power supply range. We can solve these sorts of problems by building specialist interface hardware. Alternatively, we can creating a new piece of equipment which meets all the requirements in one unit, often saving a huge amount of weight, space and power. Having addressed a diverse range of electronics problems in the past, we are finding increasingly that one of our existing in-house designs can be quickly adapted to customer requirements, saving time and money.
Software engineering
We provide in-house software engineering support for our hardware products, as well as for analysis and modelling.
Airborne Engineering specialises in development using the Linux operating system but we also deal extensively with smaller systems such as microcontrollers. We have experience in:
- data acquisition and control systems
- data reduction and analysis of test results
- Linux device driver development
- embedded Linux systems on Intel, ARM9 and PowerPC platforms
- API design and system architecture
- microcontroller systems including PIC, AVR and ARM7
